Central Catholic, Crawfordsville pitch no-hitters
By JCOnlineTuesday was no-hitter day for three Lafayette area pitchers.
Central Catholic's Austin Munn and Andrew Hubertz combined on a no-hitter in the Knights' 10-1 victory over Tri-Central.
Cory Rice was nearly untouchable, striking out 14 in Crawfordsville's 9-0, five-inning home victory over Tri-West.
Munn (1-0) had seven strikeouts for the Class A No. 5 Knights (3-1), who broke out of an early season slump with nine hits. Hubertz struck out the side in the seventh.
Jake Churchill was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Brett Haan was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, including a two-run double in the fourth.
In the Crawfordsville victory, Rice (1-2) struck out the side in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings. He induced a groundout by Matt Pope in the third inning after hitting Mitch Alexander with a pitch. Rice also walked a batter.
Chris Minks hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for Crawfordsville (3-3, 1-0 Sagamore Conference).
