Washington (CNN) -- The United States plans to send more than 1,000 Marines to Afghanistan soon, a U.S. military official told CNN on Thursday.

The Marines will support the expansion of security efforts in southern Afghanistan, and they will be on the ground for only a few months, the official said.

"We intend to keep the pressure on the Taliban throughout the winter and take advantage of the security gains already achieved," the official said.

The Marines are headed to the Kandahar and Helmand provinces in the south, which have long been major fronts in the war against the Taliban.

A Pentagon spokeswoman told CNN there are about 97,000 U.S. service members deployed to Afghanistan. There are about 21,500 Marines in the country at present, the Marines told CNN.

CNN's Barbara Starr and Joe Sterling contributed to this report.

New Bee Laws...Almost

In a land where law after law continues to be passed, here's an area I had no idea our government would exercise it's communistic views. I can certainly understand that controls should be exercised in any business, some even in a person's hobby. But, just what & how many laws need to be passed concerning the hobby of bee collection???

It seems it's all about the loss of freedoms, I mean, c'mon, wanting to limit the amount of hives, gosh, when will it end???

Indiana beekeepers derail proposed bee restrictions

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS • January 6, 2011
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Western Indiana beekeepers who swarmed county officials with complaints about proposed limits on their honey-making hobby have forced them to drop the proposed restrictions.

Vigo County’s beekeepers began buzzing early this week over the ordinance’s proposal to limit each person to one hive for every 10 acres of land owned unless the land is zoned for agricultural purposes. The Tribune-Star reports the ordinance also would have limited beekeeping to land parcels greater than 2 acres.

But county beekeepers complained that the rules would have put them out of business. Some said the restrictions were a particularly bad idea at a time when the nation’s honeybees are experiencing large, mysterious die-offs.

The head of the county’s planning department announced Wednesday that the provisions were being dropped from the proposed ordinance.

Let athletes run the governments!!!

Below is a post I made late last year about athletes of their respective countries running their government if we want peace. Here is another example that supports my belief on world peace, skateboarders have peace with Cuban teens.

American brings skateboarding diplomacy to Cuba

Ok, one only need to look at athletes at the Olympics & how each country superbly gets along. There's no hostile behavior instilled at each other at the games like there is between governments. My idea, let athletes run the governments. Our government & main stream media claims all these foreign countries want to do is kill Americans. I don't quite agree with that.

I mean, there are Americans playing pro basketball in Iran. The Iranians eat it up including the president 0IJDASFOADHF whatever his name is. He's been seen at games & even cheering on the American players and has been quoted as loving it.

Now this article in which Americans playing pro basketball in China. They are eating this up, hence let's allow athletes to run all governments. Seems they know how to get along regardless of ethnicity.

Chinese fans eating up American pro athletes!!!
