I will never forget the day Nick was brought in to see his 1st varsity baseball action. It was a Saturday & I was not hurried to leave work to go see this game. It was against top ranked 4A Cathedral (& against one of the top college pitching prospects in the country Dillon Peters, TEXAS) & Nick was a FR just brought up from JV as a pitcher. I thought no hurry to leave work he will probably only get to pitch the last inning or so just to get his feet wet, WRONG!
I see him warming up in the bullpen & thought the game started early, again thinking he's only pitching late innings. I looked at the scoreboard & saw that CC was down 5-0 in the 2nd inning, we were getting hammered early. Not only that, upon further scanning of the field for the status of the game, bases were loaded.. a firestorm!! There were two outs tho!!! Nick leaves the bullpen, walks by his mom n me and said, "I'm sick & think I'm gonna puke"!!
Nick struck out the batter leaving the bases loaded!! He proceeded to pitch the next 5 1/3 innings of 2 hit ball, 2 walks, a HBP then did finally give up 1 run in the 7th inning. Peters threw a 1 hitter on us and the final was 6-0 Cathedral.
