A Tragedy in our town

Today we have received great news about the arrest of the driver in the hit & run fatality of a 15 year old girl walking along a road here with her friend. There's no way possible that I would understand how the parents, friends & family feel after such a tragic incident.

I think it's also appropriate to comment on one of our local law enforcement agencies for resolving this issue quickly. I think it would be difficult to solve a hit n run accident, especially if that vehicle were from another state. Congrats go out to the local law enforcement agencies involved.

The driver suspect of the hit and run death of a 15-year-old girl Sunday night has been arrested. Police arrested 42-year-old Robert Kirts Monday.

According to police, Ebony Knight was walking along State Road 25 near South Beck Lane around 8:30 p.m. on the south side of Lafayette when a dark-colored SUV hit her. The vehicle then sped off.

A police officer was looking along County Road 275 South for the suspected vehicle Monday when he saw Kirts' black Jeep Liberty. The vehicle had front end damage.

Kirts came outside to see what the officer was checking. He was then arrested.

Kirts is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident. His car is currently impounded.

Central Catholic baseball on the horizon

We are etching ever so close to another Central Catholic baseball season here in Lafayette, IN. Practice is underway inside right now due to imperfect field conditions outside. My son Nick has been throwing during the offseason & doing some hitting with me every other weekend & at school. At my age, I can still barely throw batting practice to him. Two more summers & I will have an excuse not to throw to him anymore, he will have graduated. Not that I don't like it because I do enjoy every minute of it, what father wouldn't? In fact, when he moves on to his college playing days, I will still do it, I just might need a wheel chair to get to the mound & back. LOL

Nick's team is on back to back State Championship runs but I feel this year is going to be a tremendous challenge. CC has lost a ton of talent that took us to 2 straight titles. I have a ton of confidence in our coaching staff to get us prepared once again though. The 1st scrimmage is March 24th against Brebuef. We then play a 4A State Champion team out of Wisconsin called Catholic Central, the same team name only turned around. LOL Catholic Central has won 2 of the past 3 state titles in WI in Div4. We are on back to back & 3 out of the past 4. This could be war!!!

This game is Saturday April 2, at Lafayette Central Catholic 1:00pm!!! Be There!!!
