IU Knocks Off No1 Kentucky!!!

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Junior Christian Watford finished with 20 points in Indiana's first upset of a top-ranked team since taking down Duke in the 2002 NCAA tournament. The only other time they had beaten a No. 1 team in Bloomington was Jan. 7, 2001, when Kirk Hasten hit a buzzer-beater to knock off No. 1 Michigan State 59-58.

Sophomore Victor Oladipo had 13 points and five Hoosiers wound up in double figures. Indiana is 9-0 for the first time since 1989-90.

Kentucky (8-1) was led by Doron Lamb with 19 points and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist with 18.

The Wildcats rallied twice from their largest deficit of the season (10 points) and appeared to have survived the scare when Darius Miller backed in for a dunk to give Kentucky a 69-68 lead with 2 minutes to go.

Watford answered with a layup for the Hoosiers, and then Indianapolis native Marquis Teague drove in for a layup to give Kentucky a 71-70 lead with 48.8 seconds left.

After Watford missed a 15-footer with 28 seconds left, Anthony Davis couldn't seal it, missing the front end of a one-and-one.

Then, after an Indiana turnover, Lamb was fouled with 5.6 seconds to go but missed the first of two shots. After making the second, the Hoosiers rushed up the floor and junior Jordan Hulls dumped the ball to the trailing Watford, who hit from the left wing to end it.

It was the biggest win in Tom Crean's four seasons in Bloomington and ended Kentucky's three-game winning streak in the series.

Kentucky committed 17 turnovers and allowed a season-high point total.

Brutal 2012 baseball schedule! Bring it on!!!

I, for the 1st time just looked at our upcoming varsity baseball schedule, it looks brutal. We play only one 1A school this year, that being Frontier who is typically ranked #1 in the state. As has been in the past, wins are expected & these bigger schools have not intimidated CC whatsoever in the past.

Hard to believe this will be Nicks last varsity season! But, not likely his last baseball season...hopefully. Franklin College is interested, he had a campus visit 1 month ago & he could be playing college ball, a dream he had since age 12.

Fabulous Art Show!!!

I spent a Friday evening with my best friend Jerry at a local church art show on the west side. Many incredible & unique items were on display & for sale. I wanted to share a short list of websites (below) to visit that will provide information on the many items on display & the types of art each artist does. Some of these would be excellent Christmas gifts. What astonished me the most were the low, low prices on these items.

As we browsed these items, music in two separate locations made for an enjoyable evening, well, the food did to. Many, many other forms of art were on display, I was unable to get all the business cards for each one.

Bordenet to Hall of Fame!!!

CC baseball coach headed to Hall of Fame

Central Catholic's Tim Bordenet will be one of five inductees into the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in January.

A 1987 graduate of Central Catholic, for whom he earned Indiana All-Star honors, Bordenet then played baseball at Evansville and Purdue. In 16 years as a head coach, including two stints totaling 14 seasons with the Knights, Bordenet has compiled a 355-149-1 record.

Central Catholic has won five Class A state championships under Bordenet, including three straight and four in the past five years. His Knights teams have also won nine sectional, eight regional and five semistate championships.

Bordenet, who also coached two seasons at Muncie Central and was a Benton Central assistant for two seasons, served as IHSBCA president in 2007-08. For the past six seasons he has served as Central Catholic's athletic director.Highland coach Dan Miller, Western coach Ty Calloway, southern Indiana American Legion coach Jim Haaff and former San Francisco Giants infielder Bruce Miller are the other inductees.

The induction ceremony will take place on Jan. 20 as part of the annual baseball clinic awards banquet.

No letdown for No. 1 Central Catholic

Top-ranked Central Catholic scored six touchdowns on its first seven possessions on the way to a 56-6 victory over North White at LaRocca Field in a Class A, Sectional 34 semifinal Friday night.

The Knights (11-0) host Caston for the sectional championship next Friday. North White finishes its season 4-7.

In extending its winning streak to 41, Central Catholic looked every bit like a two-time defending state champion. The Knights limited North White to two first downs in the first half and 153 yards in total offense, 13 through the air.

Knights coach Kevin O'Shea was worried his team could have come out flat after emotional victories the past two weeks over West Lafayette and No. 2 Pioneer.

"Sometimes your emotional tank can get a little empty," O'Shea said. "I don't think this was our best game but we came out and did what we had to do. Game time, our kids usually show up and play. A lot of these kids have been around the block and they understand it's one and done if you don't show up and play."

Central Catholic erased any doubts early, holding the Vikings to minus-2 yards on their first drive. After a short punt, CC scored on two Danny Anthrop running plays.

Anthrop, who didn't play beyond the first drive of the second quarter, scored three times: on a 13-yard run on the opening drive, on a 15-yard shovel pass near the end of the first quarter and on a 3-yard run on the Knights' first drive of the second quarter.

He finished with 82 yards rushing on four carries and another 34 yards on three receptions.

"The good thing about tonight was a lot of the younger kids got a chance to play," O'Shea said. "Our plan was to give Danny about five or six touches and get him out of there."

Brad Schrader scored on an 8-yard touchdown run between Anthrop's first two touchdowns to give Central Catholic a 21-0 first quarter lead.

"They're an outstanding football team," North White coach Jim Davis said. "I'm not sure anybody will be able to handle them. We're undermanned in a lot of different ways and we were just trying to hold on as long as we could. They just have too many weapons on both sides of the ball."

Jake Churchill scored on a 19-yard shovel pass from Munn and Nick Zak added a 5-yard TD in the second quarter to give the Knights a 42-0 halftime edge.

North White junior fullback Kolton Linback rushed for 119 yards on 29 carries, but most of that came in the second half.

"We've been working on some new stunts and blitzes, and they worked out this week and plugged up all the holes," Central Catholic linebacker Ross Corcoran said. "We came out pretty well prepared. Coach helped with our focus because he's on you all week no matter what the other team's record. He makes us get better every day."

Schrader scored his second touchdown when he returned the second half kickoff 80 yards down the left sideline.

North White got its only score on a 14-play drive that used up 8:50 of the clock between the third and fourth quarter. On a first-and-goal at the Knights 7, Linback gained six yards before fumbling into the end zone but wide receiver Haden Williams fell on the loose ball.

"Linback's a bowling ball," O'Shea said. "He gave us a problem last year. In the first half I thought our defensive line did a good job of pinching him off. For our younger kids, he was a load."

Ty Schrader closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter, converting a screen pass from backup quarterback Hayes Cronk into a 26-yard score.
