Nick's 1st varsity game memory!

I will never forget the day Nick was brought in to see his 1st varsity baseball action. It was a Saturday & I was not hurried to leave work to go see this game. It was against top ranked 4A Cathedral (& against one of the top college pitching prospects in the country Dillon Peters, TEXAS) & Nick was a FR just brought up from JV as a pitcher. I thought no hurry to leave work he will probably only get to pitch the last inning or so just to get his feet wet, WRONG!

I see him warming up in the bullpen & thought the game started early, again thinking he's only pitching late innings. I looked at the scoreboard & saw that CC was down 5-0 in the 2nd inning, we were getting hammered early. Not only that, upon further scanning of the field for the status of the game, bases were loaded.. a firestorm!! There were two outs tho!!! Nick leaves the bullpen, walks by his mom n me and said, "I'm sick & think I'm gonna puke"!!

Nick struck out the batter leaving the bases loaded!! He proceeded to pitch the next 5 1/3 innings of 2 hit ball, 2 walks, a HBP then did finally give up 1 run in the 7th inning. Peters threw a 1 hitter on us and the final was 6-0 Cathedral.

IU Knocks Off No1 Kentucky!!!

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Junior Christian Watford finished with 20 points in Indiana's first upset of a top-ranked team since taking down Duke in the 2002 NCAA tournament. The only other time they had beaten a No. 1 team in Bloomington was Jan. 7, 2001, when Kirk Hasten hit a buzzer-beater to knock off No. 1 Michigan State 59-58.

Sophomore Victor Oladipo had 13 points and five Hoosiers wound up in double figures. Indiana is 9-0 for the first time since 1989-90.

Kentucky (8-1) was led by Doron Lamb with 19 points and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist with 18.

The Wildcats rallied twice from their largest deficit of the season (10 points) and appeared to have survived the scare when Darius Miller backed in for a dunk to give Kentucky a 69-68 lead with 2 minutes to go.

Watford answered with a layup for the Hoosiers, and then Indianapolis native Marquis Teague drove in for a layup to give Kentucky a 71-70 lead with 48.8 seconds left.

After Watford missed a 15-footer with 28 seconds left, Anthony Davis couldn't seal it, missing the front end of a one-and-one.

Then, after an Indiana turnover, Lamb was fouled with 5.6 seconds to go but missed the first of two shots. After making the second, the Hoosiers rushed up the floor and junior Jordan Hulls dumped the ball to the trailing Watford, who hit from the left wing to end it.

It was the biggest win in Tom Crean's four seasons in Bloomington and ended Kentucky's three-game winning streak in the series.

Kentucky committed 17 turnovers and allowed a season-high point total.

Brutal 2012 baseball schedule! Bring it on!!!

I, for the 1st time just looked at our upcoming varsity baseball schedule, it looks brutal. We play only one 1A school this year, that being Frontier who is typically ranked #1 in the state. As has been in the past, wins are expected & these bigger schools have not intimidated CC whatsoever in the past.

Hard to believe this will be Nicks last varsity season! But, not likely his last baseball season...hopefully. Franklin College is interested, he had a campus visit 1 month ago & he could be playing college ball, a dream he had since age 12.

Fabulous Art Show!!!

I spent a Friday evening with my best friend Jerry at a local church art show on the west side. Many incredible & unique items were on display & for sale. I wanted to share a short list of websites (below) to visit that will provide information on the many items on display & the types of art each artist does. Some of these would be excellent Christmas gifts. What astonished me the most were the low, low prices on these items.

As we browsed these items, music in two separate locations made for an enjoyable evening, well, the food did to. Many, many other forms of art were on display, I was unable to get all the business cards for each one.

Bordenet to Hall of Fame!!!

CC baseball coach headed to Hall of Fame

Central Catholic's Tim Bordenet will be one of five inductees into the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in January.

A 1987 graduate of Central Catholic, for whom he earned Indiana All-Star honors, Bordenet then played baseball at Evansville and Purdue. In 16 years as a head coach, including two stints totaling 14 seasons with the Knights, Bordenet has compiled a 355-149-1 record.

Central Catholic has won five Class A state championships under Bordenet, including three straight and four in the past five years. His Knights teams have also won nine sectional, eight regional and five semistate championships.

Bordenet, who also coached two seasons at Muncie Central and was a Benton Central assistant for two seasons, served as IHSBCA president in 2007-08. For the past six seasons he has served as Central Catholic's athletic director.Highland coach Dan Miller, Western coach Ty Calloway, southern Indiana American Legion coach Jim Haaff and former San Francisco Giants infielder Bruce Miller are the other inductees.

The induction ceremony will take place on Jan. 20 as part of the annual baseball clinic awards banquet.
