A huge showdown tonight!

It's Central Catholic vs Frontier! No 1 against no 2 for the sectional championship tonight!

It took almost nine hours from first pitch to last to complete Monday's Class A Central Catholic baseball sectional semifinals at Leming Field.

ut there wasn't really any prolonging of the drama. The only unexpected aspect of the eventual Frontier-Central Catholic championship game matchup was its postponement until tonight at 7.

The top-ranked Falcons waited out a rain and lightning delay of nearly four hours before finishing off an 11-3 semifinal victory over Tri-Central. Central Catholic opened the day with a 10-0 victory over Rossville.

"It's a cool atmosphere," said Frontier senior Dylan Sterrett, who drove in three runs and scored three more on Monday, of playing CC for the championship. "Everybody will be here. There will be lines (of people) down there like there were two years ago. Should be fun."

Both Frontier (29-1) and Central Catholic (22-7) started their No. 2 pitchers in the semifinals. Sterrett (10-0, 0.95 ERA) and CC senior Taylor Glaze (6-2, 0.99 ERA) are expected to take the mound tonight.

Sterrett and Glaze have not faced each other since the 2008 sectional championship, which the Falcons won 3-0. Neither took the mound during the teams' regular season meeting, when CC routed Frontier 22-3 in Chalmers.

"We've got to know that they're going to come out ready to play, but we've got to come out and be more intense and focused," said CC senior Scott Windler, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles against Rossville.

Frontier led Tri-Central 3-2 in the top of the fourth before the first rain delay, which lasted 24 minutes. First baseman Frank Fisk extended his area home run lead to 14 with a two-run shot during a four-run bottom of the fourth, and the Falcons scored three more in the fifth.

Tri-Central's Josh Copp homered leading off the top of the sixth to make it 10-3, but Frontier's Travis Demerly (8-1) set the next three Trojans down in order. With winds picking up at Leming Field, officials covered the infield with tarpaulins before intermittent rains fell for the next three-plus hours.

The Falcons played games in the auxiliary gymnasium at CC while waiting to find out if play would resume

"Whenever you start a game, you should finish it," said Fisk, who went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs. "We were lucky enough today to have the weather hold off."

Demerly scattered four hits, walked three and struck out nine over six innings. Grant Ream doubled and scored in the third and added a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Central Catholic continued a recent trend of lopsided sectional victories over Rossville. Windler, Chas Bobillo and Austin Munn all doubled during a four-run top of the first, and the Knights collected 14 hits.

"Being (the visitor), we get that first chance to get up there to hit and get run support," said Munn, who doubled twice. "We know that our pitcher's going to shut them down."

Brett Haan started and threw three perfect innings for the Knights. Ben Cramer (2-0) relieved and finished off the three-hit shutout.

For the past four seasons, the Hornets have drawn Central Catholic in the sectional semifinals, and the Knights have outscored them 53-0. Matt Ummel doubled and singled for Rossville (9-17), which has not scored in sectional play since 2004 and has been outscored 78-0 in that span.

"You've got to put pressure on a team like this; you've got to put runs on them," Hornets coach Michael Gick said. "We competed, but at some point we've got to get past that level and really get after a game, especially against a team like that. They've had our number for quite a while."

Travis Demerly and Frank Fisk each hit two-run homers to lead Class A No. 1 Frontier past ClintonPrairie 9-2 in the opener of the Class A Central Catholic Sectional on Thursday.

Demerly, Fisk and Grant Ream each finished with two hits as Frontier took advantage of five Clinton Prairie errors. Dylan Sterrett tossed a completed game three hitter, striking out nine.

Catholic Classic

For the second consecutive game, Class A No. 3 Central Catholic won during their final at-bat in a 1-0 triumph over Danville (Ill.) Schlarman.

Winning pitcher Taylor Glaze led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single but was out on Scott Windler's fielder's choice. Reed Drysdale singled and two wild pitches allowed Windler to score.

Glaze (5-2) allowed four hits, struck out five and had two of Central Catholic's four hits.

Scecina edged CC 3-2 in the nightcap.

Dramatic come from behind win!

Class A No. 3 Central Catholic scored five runs in its final two at-bats to stun Guerin Catholic 5-4 in the opening game of the Catholic Classic on Friday night.

The Knights (18-4) seemingly were going to go into the seventh inning trailing 4-0 when with two outs, Reed Drysdale doubled home a run. Pinch runner Cody Schrader made it 4-2 when he scored on Chas Bobillo's hit. Austin Munn closed the deficit to one run when his single plated Bobillo.

Singles by Billy Fusiek and Danny Anthrop opened the CC seventh. A sacrifice bunt by Cole Hruskovich advanced the runners into scoring position, forcing Guerin to intentionally walk Taylor Glaze.

A wild pitch allowed Fusiek to score the tying run, and the winning run came home when Bobillo's fly ball to left was dropped.

CC continues Catholic Classic play today with an 11 a.m. game against Danville (Ill.) Schlarman and a 6:30 contest with Scecina.

Taylor Glaze's bases-clearing double sparked a six-run fourth inning and propelled Class A No. 3 Central Catholic to an 11-2 baseball victory over Clinton Central on Tuesday.

Glaze went 3-for-3 and scored three runs. Scott Windler went 2-for-3 with a double and also scored three times for Central Catholic (16-4, 9-0 Hoosier Heartland Conference).

Brett Haan (5-0) allowed one earned run on three hits over six innings while striking out six.

Blake Surber went 2-for-2 with an RBI single for Clinton Central.

Also, the next night, Nick pitched a 5 inning win over this same team on their home field. The final I think was 13-2. This weekend is our Catholic Classic, GO KNIGHTS!!!

CC rallies past 4A Lafayette Jeff!

As the first flicker of a rally ignited beneath Central Catholic's baseball team Thursday night, senior shortstop Chas Bobillo played the rest of the seventh inning out in his head.

If the three Knights in front of him reached base, Bobillo would stand at the plate with the bases loaded and two out in a tie game against city rival Lafayette Jeff.

"When I was in the on-deck circle, I was thinking there was no way I wasn't going to get the hit," Bobillo said. "I was just really confident up there."

Everything happened just as Bobillo imagined. His single to left field drove in Taylor Glaze with the winning run in Class A No. 3 Central Catholic's 3-2 victory over Lafayette Jeff at Leming Field.

Glaze (4-2), who struck out a career-high 15, won a pitching duel against Jeff's Tyler Robbins, who had scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh.

"I love these close games," said Glaze, who outdueled McCutcheon's Shane Bryant in a 3-2 victory a week earlier. "It just brings such a better atmosphere to the game. It gets your adrenaline rushing and you're focused, you're zoned in, and it makes it that much more fun."

Robbins (2-2), who had not pitched since April 24 due to a back injury, allowed a run on four hits over the first six innings. The junior right-hander retired the first two Knights (15-3) in the seventh and had a 3-2 count on Cole Hruskovich before a walk started the CC rally.

For the sixth time, the Bronchos (11-9) lost a game that was decided in the seventh inning.

"We've got to bear down in the seventh inning and finish a game," Robbins said. "It hurts to lose to CC, but losing it in the seventh inning is worse."

After Hruskovich's walk, Glaze singled to right center. Hruskovich scored the tying run from second on Scott Windler's single to left, and Reed Drysdale drew a walk to load the bases.

Bobillo lined Robbins' first pitch foul down the left field line, then smacked the next one between third base and shortstop.

"I was excited," Bobillo said. "There was no doubt in my mind I was going to get the hit."

Before the rally, it appeared both the victory and the winning run belonged to Robbins. Leading off the top of the seventh in a 1-1 game, he swung at strike three in the dirt but reached when the ball rolled to the backstop.

After Sean McDonald sacrificed Robbins to second, CC intentionally walked Brandon Adams. As Robbins attempted to steal third, DJ Frederick grounded to second. The throw went to first, and Robbins never stopped running through third and beat the throw home to make it 2-1 Bronchos.

Every Jeff starter except Adams struck out at least once. and the Bronchos left nine runners on, including six in scoring position.

"The way we play baseball, moving runners around and doing things like that, you've got to cut the strikeouts down to seven or lower and put the ball in play," Jeff coach Scott McTagertt said.

"We put the ball in play a couple of times, and they made an error on it. Put the ball in play -- that's all it takes in high school baseball, and we just didn't get it done."

Glaze struck out the side in the third and fourth and fanned two batters in four other innings. The senior left-hander threw 141 pitches in the complete-game victory.

"I was asking my guys, get me runs, and they got me just enough," Glaze said.
